http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/Area2.do
The website above is intended to be used for detailed statistical analysis but can also be used to produce maps of each Super Output Area (SOA) listed below. SOAs have 3 hierarchies and the level we use is the lower level which has a 01 prefix in England, Scotland and Wales, e.g. E01024019.
In order to produce a map, please follow the instructions below.
- Chose NeSS Geography Hierarchy under the heading “Default list”, then click “Next” and then “Next” again. The URL should now read
http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/AreaList.do
- In the “Make your selection” area chose the “Construct a new area”, then select “Next” twice until you have a page called “Create your own area” with a map of the UK in the centre panel. This should have the URL
http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/Uda.do
- On the left hand side is an input box with “Find” to its right. Input the Super Output Area number in this box, e.g. E01024019 and press “Find”.
- A pop-up window will appear for a “Super Output Area Lower Layer:1” with an Area name, e.g. Ashford 008B. This name and number is an alternative name for the SOA number you input and the level you require has a single letter suffix e.g. A, B or C
- Select the name and a map will appear in the centre panel of the page. This will show various Layers including smaller ones but the area you are looking for is the name you selected, e.g. Ashford 008B and this will be in green. Where its boundary does not overlap larger areas its boundary will be green.
- Areas can be highlighted by clicking on the map which makes them clearer when printed and it is possible to add adjacent areas by inputting more SOA numbers into the “Find” box.
