Explanation of mapping techniques The ATM Working Group identified 1,707 so-called “Super Output Areas” (SOAs) where significant numbers of residents did not have convenient access to a free-of-charge cash machine. Of these, 860 are now served by a live machine or have a free-of-charge cash machine under contract. A single cash machine may serve a number of adjacent Super Output Areas depending on the size of the Super Output Area. The Working Group accepted that some target Super Output Areas would, on investigation, prove unsuitable for a cash machine on account of scattered population or lack of suitable premise
