Security

Members are required to comply with minimum security standards (incorporated into the LINK Security Standard) in respect of both Cards and ATMs connected to the network. This Standard is authorised and endorsed by the LINK Network Members Council.

Messages and transactions in the LINK network contain both cardholder-sensitive data and related financial information. To maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the network and to instil cardholder confidence in the use of the LINK network and ATMs in general, encryption is therefore used to protect PINs and PIN keys to reduce the risk of financial loss by fraud.

The LINK network does not approve type nor does it offer any recommendation in respect of individual make of ATM. The network works to ensure the continued upgrade of its ATM software to ensure that ATM security meets the latest standards.
