  • Over £513,000,000 withdrawn in more than 7,345,000 LINK cash withdrawals
  • London the busiest region for LINK cash withdrawals

Despite the poor weather forecast last Friday (25 May) was the busiest day of the year for LINK cash machines. A record £513,000,000 was withdrawn in over 7,345,000 withdrawal transactions. At the lunchtime peak of 13:04 on Friday, the LINK network was processing 312 transactions each second.  The average cash withdrawal value was £69.84

Not surprisingly, the busiest region was London with over £79 million withdrawn in over one million transactions.

Graham Mott, Head of Development at LINK comments:

“Reasonable weather on Friday, combined with the impending long weekend and the fact that we are near the end of the month and payday would all have contributed to the dash for cash. People like to stock up on cash as they prepare to go shopping or head out on day trips with friends and family.  As it happened most people had a rainy weekend but they would have had plenty of cash ready for in-door activities like shopping, or going to the cinema.“
