LINK, the UK’s main cash machine network, has today launched an updated version of its ATM locator app to include thousands of Post Office locations across the country.

Originally launched in 2017, the app will now allow you to see both the location of all 62,500 LINK ATMs as well as branches in the Post Office network, where consumers can conduct their everyday banking services over the counter, including depositing and withdrawing cash for free from their usual high street bank account and checking their balance.

The app shows you where your nearest ATM or Post Office is, and has the ability to filter your search results, for example by finding ATMs that provide audio assistance for consumers who are blind or partially sighted; ATMs that will dispense £5 notes; free-to-use ATMs; or those belonging to specific organisations, e.g. your bank. It also includes top tips on how to stay safe when using an ATM. For the Post Office branches, the app also gives opening times for branches, so customers can make sure their visit is easy and convenient.

Mary Buffee, Chief Consumer Affairs Officer at LINK said: “Millions of people rely on cash and for thousands of consumers, the LINK ATM app has been a handy tool for locating the nearest ATM. The Post Office allows customers to withdraw cash from their account, so it is sensible to integrate their network to the app so customers have more information at their fingertips. Consumer spending habits are changing, but it’s always good to know where you can cash out when you need it.”

Martin Kearsley, Banking Director at Post Office said: “With 93 per cent of people in the UK living within one mile of their nearest Post Office, our branches are convenient and accessible places for customers to pop in and withdraw and deposit cash, as well as check their balance, all over the counter. Being able to find the nearest branch, alongside the UK’s network of ATMs, is great news for our customers and postmasters alike; handy information for customers, and a great way of highlighting just one of the vital services our postmasters offer to their communities.”

Tracey Graham, Chair, LINK’s Consumer Council: “I am pleased to see the launch of an updated LINK App to include Post Offices, it’s another great way to help consumers have a much broader picture of services they can use”.

Additional features to the app include:

  • Accessibility; full access for visually impaired people through voice-over technology and it has been developed with the support of Thomas Pocklington Trust.
  • Advice and guidance; the app also includes hints and tips on personal safety and protecting your PIN.
  • Alerts; you can set a number of ATMs or Post Offices as your favourites e.g. near home or work and the app will alert you when you pass by as a reminder you may want to get cash.
  • Feedback – you can also provide feedback to LINK and the Post Office about the services you use.

The app is available to download free of charge on both the Apple and Android stores.
