LINK, the operator of the UK's cash machine network, has reported that May saw new records for the volume and value of LINK cash machine (ATM) transactions.

May 2009 Records

  • 255 million LINK transactions*, 3.7 million more than the previous record from May 2008
  • £10 billion in LINK cash withdrawals, beating December 2008's record by £8 million
  • 1 May 2009 was the busiest day ever at UK cash machines with 11.9 million transactions, beating the previous record of 22nd December 2006 by around 100,000.


* LINK transactions are those which involve two members of the LINK Scheme, i.e. they exclude customers using their own banks' or building societies' ATMs. Total transactions include balance enquires as well as cash withdrawals.
