LINK has today announced the launch of its free ATM locator app, the most comprehensive mobile application of its type for finding ATMs in the UK. Connected to LINK’s ATM database, it shows the location of all 70,000 LINK ATMs, which is effectively every cash machine in the UK.
  • App is fully accessible for visually impaired people thanks to voice-over technology and  it has been developed with the support of Thomas Pocklington Trust
  • Advice about personal safety when using ATMs also included in the app

The new app was developed with the support of Thomas Pocklington Trust – a national sight loss charity who work to increase awareness and understanding of the needs of people with sight loss. The app will show you where your nearest ATM is, and has the ability to filter your search results, for example by providing information on: how close you are to ATMs that provide audio assistance for consumers who are blind or partially sighted; ATMs that will dispense £5 notes; free-to-use ATMs; or those belonging to specific organisations, e.g. your bank. It also includes top tips on how to stay safe when using an ATM.

Additional features include

  • Accessibility; full access for visually impaired people through voice-over technology and it has been developed with the support of Thomas Pocklington Trust
  • Advice and guidance; the app also includes hints and tips on personal safety and protecting your PIN
  • Alerts; you can set a number of ATMs as your favorites e.g. near home or work and the app will alert you when you pass by as a reminder you may want to get cash.
  • Feedback – you can also provide feedback to LINK and its Members about the machines you use.

John Howells, LINK’s CEO said: “LINK is committed to financial inclusion and the independent LINK Consumer Council has been fully behind this exciting initiative. Cash remains an essential part of our lives and is still the most attractive payment option for many of us in lots of situations. The new, free app will make finding an ATM more convenient for everyone and, with its search filters, make it easier for vulnerable consumers to draw out their cash safely, and for anyone who wants to find ATMs that dispense £5 notes.”

Marsha de Cordova, Engagement and Advocacy Director at Thomas Pocklington Trust, a national sight loss organisation who champion the needs of people with sight loss; commented: “LINK involved us at every stage of development ensuring accessibility remained a priority, and have been open to our feedback. We hope other organisations follow in LINK's footsteps to make sure apps are accessible to all."

The app is available to download free of charge on both the Apple and Android stores.
