LINK, the UK’s cash machine network, has announced that plans to increase the quantity and quality of £5 notes in circulation by, among other things, increasing the number dispensed through cash machines (ATMs), are on track with over 1,700 cash machines now dispensing £5 notes.   This represents an increase of over 50% during the first quarter of 2011[1].

Graham Mott, senior LINK spokesman said; “For many years the quantity and quality of £5 notes has been falling, but working with LINK members and the Bank of England we have seen a significant rise in the number of cash machines dispensing £5 notes and customers will start to notice these newer, crisper £5 notes, not only when they withdraw cash, but also in their change when they are out shopping.
