Milestone 250th Banking Hub recommended by LINK
- Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire to become the 250th location to be recommended for a banking hub
- One of four new hubs announced by LINK today
- Government has committed to seeing 350 banking hubs open
LINK has today confirmed its 250th banking hub recommendation in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.
The recommendation follows the closure of a local bank branch. LINK visited the town and found that there was a significant reliance on cash and a need for new services.
Banking hubs are a shared banking space, similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to everyone. When opened, the hub will consist of a counter service where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash and make bill payments. In addition, there will be private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters that require specialist knowledge or privacy. The banks will be working on a rotating basis, so there will be staff from different banks available on different days.
In December, Cash Access UK opened the 200th banking hub in Billericay, Essex, and there are now 210 hubs open across the UK.
John Howells, CEO, LINK: “Almost five years ago, the first two banking hubs opened as part of a pilot to see how we could better protect access to cash. We’re delighted to announce the recommendation of the 250th hub today. The hubs – alongside other solutions – are making a significant difference and helping communities to readily access and deposit cash with ease.”
